Today was the first solid block of athletic activity since the NYC Marathon 2 weeks ago. I headed out to Port Jefferson to hang out and hit the trails on the newly finished Winter Beater Project with David Pike (www.hardenthefup.blogspot.com). I haven’t been “real” mountain biking in 10+yrs. The last time I rode I ended up throwing my bike into the woods in frustration. I just wasn’t a good mtn biker back then. Heck, I wasn’t a biker back then. I’m still not a good mtn biker but at least I feel like there is a chance for progress this time around. I was able to handle the physical asset of it, just the technical bike handling skills are non-existant. All-in-all the rain, the mud, the cold, the broken saddle that pierced my ass, we still had a freakin’ blast. I was all smiles for the entire duration of the ride. If this is what my off season looks like then this is going to kick ass.
